Tech Standards & Web 2.0 Resources for Library, ESL, and GT
On Monday, May 12th, I will present a workshop on implementing the NJ Tech Standards to the ESL, Library and GEM staff members as well as the middle school teaching and learning facilitators and lab teachers. This presentation will highlight various ways we are integrating technology across the curriculum and some Web 2.0 tools we have been exploring over the last few months. The link to the presentation can be found here: http://www.gtps.k12.nj.us/technology/tech_st_libgemesl/Tech_ST_libgemesl_files/frame.htm

Wow! Alot of valuable sites and information, some a little ambitious for the students I teach, however definately some I’d like to explore further.

Thank you again!!!!
It is always really fun to see all the possiblilities out there to teach students. It certainly makes it fun for me to learn alongside others. I hope to use podcasting in association with our social studies “History Alive”d program in the future, as well as some of the “book building” possibilities with the younger Gem students!

I thought this workshop was very informative. I really enjoyed learning about VoiceThread and Audacity. I really like to integrate technology into my ELL lessons and want to find easier less time consuming ways to help kids and “MYSELF!” I regularly have my students record simply using voice recorder on the computer. This will help make this more fun and meaningful to my students. I try to stay on top on the latest technology and am Wowed at how much more there is out there.

It was good to have a second presentation of the various programs. I’m beginning to get an idea of what I want my blog to look like next year. I learned how to insert a video clip into inspiration. I’m hoping to use photostory, audacity and Voice Thread with students next year. My concern is getting more of our teachers using the programs that are available. Hopefully if I work with a few on the literature blog and share the results, others will want to join in. I’m hoping to get kids interested in the blog and they may inspire their teachers. When we did the photostory project with Mr. Cooke’s class, those students used it for a language arts project after that. I think the students will pick up the programs quickly and will be asking to use them.

Hi Betty!
It was interesting getting to see everything we now have… there was stuff out there that I didn’t know about. I really liked the idea of getting kids to make their own stories in Kidspiration 3… I’d really like to see that installed all over the place (especially in the GEM room at Arthur Rann… bet you can’t guess who wrote this, now can you???). Once it is installed in there, I’d like to try it next year with a PEP group (1st and/or 2nd grade)… I think they’d get a kick out of creating stories in this. Right now, I can’t really think of a question or concern… I’m sure I’ll think of something after drinking another 48 ounces or so of coffee, but right now, I haven’t had enough caffeine! Take care! Thanks!

Something or things that I learned was the programs that I can use to reinforce writing, especially the PREWRITING.
I would like to create files where the students can reference to throughout the year on the skills taught, something like mrcoley. How long would this take per skill to create by myself or by the student.
I was wondering if a list can be created for the ESL and Bridges program that could direct us to the programs that one can use for reinforcing vocabulary usage, writing, and fluency in reading as well as the math program where the students can learn how to write step by step in solving math problems (computation and word ones).

I learned how to hyperlink video to Inspiration.
I’ll try Pod Casting and Inspiration.
I am hoping that Atomic Learning will have the tutorials that I will need.

One thing I learned was how to save work on Scholastic Keys. That has been a frustrating problem for me this year.
I will try voicethread with my students before the year is over and become more familiar with it over the summer to incorporate it into my program next year.
It is tough for me to digest all this information during one workshop. I know and appreciate that you are always available for help and I will try to expand my knowledge a little bit at a time.
Thank you – Angela

I learned about a wide variety of sites and programs that we have access to in Galloway. Many lend themselves more to LAL, but several will be resources that I will share with math teachers at GTMS.
I will share some of the math programs / sites / ideas with the math teachers at GTMS. There was a set of NJ ASK problems that may be usable next year.
I am still hesitant about my level of technology knowledge. Seems the knowledge base is expanding exponentially, but I am plodding along as an addition (and sometimes subtraction) problem.

One thing I learned today was how to create a ‘tour’ using Goggle Earth. Knowing how to link pictures and videos together with the maps could help students create very interesting projects. I’d also like to show the students how to use Google Earth to create a presentation.
Thank you. Betty!!

One thing I learned about was Scholastic Keys. I will use Maxshow with my students. This was a great session, but a lot of information was covered.

Hi Betty!
Thanks for the information. I enjoyed seeing all the “final” products and would love to try them out. It’s always a challenge to find time to complete the research AND create a finished product but I always have hope! This year, I used MaxWrite a little to allow students to type their haiku- next year, I want to expand on that idea and give kids more time to create something that goes along with their poems.

Hi Betty,
Thank you for the wonderful training! So many great resources and information out there. Thank you for putting it all together.
I learned so many things, but one of those I find interesting is the tour with Google Earth. I could see myself using it during one of my PEP lessons when we go to “visit” places. I also hope to use Kidspiration and possibly Photo Story with the children!
I would also like to search for some counseling resources as we discussed.
I will take more time to look over all these resources! Thanks!

I finally found how to find the district blogs! I don’t know why I had trouble before this but right now I am good! I would really like to try using voicethreads and photostory with some of my classes next year! My one concern is that with our curriculum updates, I know that I will need to make some changes. I am sure that will significantly change what I have taught. Thanks for all the information! I want to schedule some time with you to learn more about these things.

I learned there are many avenues to use the computer to enhance learning for the ESL child. I especially am interested in Podcasting and Kidspiration 3. I would try to encorporate them in my teaching but my concern is that I don’t know enough about it. Would it be possible to give a presentation at one of our ESL meetings?

Awesome job!! Your presentation was so informative. I loved learning about Voicethread and Photostory. I plan on using more Maxshow as this is so good for ELL students. It would be helpful to have a class on Podcasting with lots of practice!
Thank you

One thing I learned was how to use Atomic Learning, Kidspiration 3 and Max write.
I think using the programs with the voice is very useful to the ESL students.
I hope to be able to review these programs and become more acquainted with them. I still could use more help.
The class was very interesting and informative.
