Literacy and Technology Workshop Grades 4-8
I will be giving a series of workshops in the next few weeks along with computer lab teachers in my district that focus on integrating technology into various subject areas. The first will focus on language arts literacy. We will cover various ways to use digital storytelling. We will also use del.icio.us, a social bookmarking site, as a means of collecting various web site resources that can be retrieved from any site that has Internet access.
The following is a link to my presentation: http://www.gtps.k12.nj.us/technology/Tech_LAL/_Tech%20LAL_files/frame.htm. Participants should comment on this blog entry for their exit ticket. Please answer the following questions:
1. Name 1 thing you learned
2. Name something you will try with your students
3. Write a question/concern/comment you may have

I learned how to create photostory which is definitely something I will use in the 6th grade classroom. Also, I can finally do my own powerpoint instead of asking the kids how to do it which is proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks!!

I learned how to use photostory and also a review of how to use power point. I would like to use photostory with my class this year with the help of the tech teacher. I understand the way to use this technology now but I know that I will forget some of it if I don’t use it all the time. That is why I would like to have help.

Today I learned about the delicious website which I will definitely use both at home and in school.
With my students I will definitely use power point and photo story to expand their learning across the curriculum.
I understand power point, but definitely want to play around with it more to grasp everything.

I learned how to tell stories on powerpoint, including adding narration and animating clip art. I would like to use this and/or photostory with my class for a writer’s notebook or writer’s workshop publication. In the past, time has been a big obstacle for projects like this, but perhaps with a new computer lab teacher & schedule, time will be available. Thanks for an informative workshop!

I learned a lot more about PowerPoint and PhotoStory. I think the PhotoStory may actually be more efficient for classroom use. I can easily use it with our social studies curriculum and creative writing.
